Our time in London started at Paddington, similar to the marmalade loving Peruvian bear.

Walking east along the Thames from London Bridge, we met various interesting characters. London Bridge was first built around 50AD, and has had several re-incarnations since. The current bridge opened in 1973 and is far less exciting than it’s medieval predecessor which was covered in shops, houses and a chapel.

RFA Proteus slipped her mooring alongside HMS Belfast and proceeded through Tower Bridge and away to her duties. RFA Proteus is the first of a new generation of survey and surveillance ships dedicated to monitoring below the surface of the water.

Somewhat stereotypically we had fish and chips for lunch~

Fish and Chips

Russell Square tube station opened in December 1906. There is a 175 step spiral staircase down to the trains (lifts are also available). Across the square from the underground station is The British Museum.

The British Museum displays stories of human culture from it’s beginnings to the present time. Highlights included the wide ranging Ancient Egypt exhibits, and Hoa Hakananai’a a megalithic statue from Easter Island.
